About this painting
The springbok is one of many antelope species that “pronk.” Meaning leaping up in the air. Pronking happens while playing, or when running away from predators in southern Africa. I was drawn to the idea of painting a subject whose pose had a bit more complexity in its meaning: a graceful leap that is both a way of expressing joy, as well as an impressive athletic feat that can allow these creatures to evade danger.
