About this painting
The title “Aubade” (“oh-bahd”) is French for a poem or song that greets the dawn—that early hour when the light is still changing from warm to cool. The doe is facing something unknown, just out of frame. I’ve been fascinated by this type of spiritual/psychological state for a while now. The moments in between more solid understanding, whether that’s physical places, time, or even identity. The jackdaws all exist in a contrasting state of reality—seemingly very certain, or somewhat confronting or humorous in their expression.
