“My expectations for a portrait of Teva based on Aimée’s talent were high. And I thought capturing what only we see, as Teva’s parents, would be a challenge. My original thought was to do a Sepia (black and white) portrait of an expression of Teva’s that only a few select individuals see. It is that of a very spoiled golden gazing at us and wondering what the next event for Ms. Teva might be. So I was surprised to see Aimee’s email, half-way through the process, saying she was concerned with the non-color portrait. She said it didn’t capture Teva’s subtle details to the degree she felt comfortable with and wanted approval to start over (a true artist she is) in color. And that is when I knew that it was going to be fantastic.

A weekend of Birthday celebrations had the portrait waiting quietly in the living room for the right moment. I don’t’ know why but I feared disappointment. Kind of like wanting a bike for your birthday and getting a hippity hop instead (sheesh, did I show my age?). Finally peace in the house and I decided I needed to see the portrait. Holding my breath my husband pealed the paper from the portrait and lifted the painting in front of me. I gasped for air and then the tears flew. He said ‘Do you like it?’ The silent, tear-dripping nod of approval was all he needed.

A friend visiting this weekend saw it later in the evening of unveiling. She said… ‘Wow, if I were in a gallery and saw this I’d say HEY, that’s Teva!’

We love it. The talent that Aimée posses is to take a photo of your beloved pet and make it even more real that one could imagine. I find myself wanting to reach out and scratch the chin in the portrait. It’s remarkable, breathtaking and tear-jerking. I’m so amazed and touched. (Mark was too, to my surprise.) Now, our only challenge is finding the perfect place to hang the beauty!
