This blog post’s initial draft contained about 9,700 words. Then I realized that you, like me, might be short on time during this holiday season. So I decided to muzzle myself and cut it down to just the essentials. Here they are:
1. Above is Cole, a incredibly smart, sweet Labrador who happens to be a service dog.
2. Cole is Koelle Simpson’s right hand man. Koelle is an incredible horse whisper/life coach.
3. What’s a horse whisperer? Check out her website. Then hire her immediately.
4. Koelle and I met through Martha Beck when we played with horses together last year.
Here’s the big reveal with the whole gang…
“You have such an unbelievable talent and gift! I know I’m totally bias, but I now have this amazing portrait that I simply can’t stop starring at. Thank you for capturing the spirit and essence of my best friend. I honestly didn’t think that was possible. Yet, now I have way to celebrate all the incredible joy and laughter he brings to my life both in this present moment and long into the future. Thank you!” – Koelle Simpson, AZ
And here’s how Cole’s portrait developed (girafffe progression coming in next blog post)…
Thanks for reading and happy holidays!

Fabulous as always! Love the step-by-step video and the reveal video! You are so talented!
Aimee, I love and admire watching your work develop. You messed me up, though! I tried your approach on a recent portrait, and it brought me to a complete halt. I had to sand and prime over it to start from scratch! I’m not completely discouraged. I think I’ll experiment on my own time, though, and keep my paid stuff on more familiar ground.
Congrats on yet another lovely finished portrait!
LOVE LOVE LOVE! My DREAM one day is to have you paint one of my Conner and one of my Scooter. I will make it happen one day.
Hi Amiee,
I think your work is brilliant! I’m envious of the fluidity and solidity you are able to achieve in such a realitively short time. You are one of the talented few who is able to touch the soul of your subjects and bring them to the surface of your canvas. I really love your paintings!
Best,
Ellen Silverberg
What a beautiful Lab.
